On Instagram @AndreaHardyRD, I talk all about gut microbiome testing and whether or not you should consider it.

????A gut microbiota test being positioned in the media to help provide clarity around what you should eat to support your immune system during COVID?????⠀
⠀
Who would have thought companies would take THAT angle to promote their product. ????⠀
⠀
Frankly, I’m effin’ pissed at the stuff that’s popping up on my Instagram ads. Companies, in a round about way implying that ‘hey, if you get a gut microbiome test, you can use the information to take care of your immune system!’ ⠀
⠀
Yes they’re ultra careful with their words. Yes each sentence is, true. But when you string it together, in the context of COVID, it’s what you’re IMPLYING that’s the problem. How I read is, is that a fecal microbiota test is a good idea to ‘hedge your bets’ against COVID. ⠀
⠀
Which is disgusting. Playing on peoples fears with tests that aren’t even recommended at this time.⠀
⠀
❌There is NO evidence that probiotics will prevent or treat COVID – only speculation.⠀
❌There is NO evidence that doing a microbiota test and following the dietary recommendations will influence your immune systems function.⠀
❌There is NO evidence that nutrition can ‘boost’ your immune function; unless you’re malnourished and there’s wiggle room to improve your nutrition status, just keep eating normally! Nutrition plays an important role in supporting our immune system.

If you want to learn about WHY microbiota tests are not indicated – I share a link to my interview with Gut Microbiota for Health in my profile @andreahardyrd⠀
