Travelling with IBS can be overwhelming. On Instagram @AndreaHardyRD, I talk all about how to prevent and manage travellers diarrhea while travelling.
???????? ????It’s March Break and I’m having the trip of a lifetime, in a country with high risk of food borne illness. ????????????⠀
⠀
This is something I’m ACUTELY aware of, as MY IBS all started with a GI virus. Getting traveller’s diarrhea is NOT on my itinerary when I travel – and I’m sure it’s not on yours either. Not to mention, when I travel, I love to indulge in spicy food, higher fat food, and of course, a cocktail or two – which can often lead to diarrhea too! ⠀
⠀
I’ve partnered with @fowlersrelief [ad] to bring you tips on how to prevent and manage traveller’s diarrhea if you’re headed for fun-in-the-sun at some higher-risk destinations including:⠀
????????Central America⠀
???????? South America⠀
???????? The Caribbean⠀
???????? Mexico⠀
⠀
Pro tips to avoid traveller’s diarrhea (TD):⠀
???? Wash your hands and bring hand sanitizer with you as water and soap isn’t always available!⠀
???? Drink bottled water. Trust me – even when they say the water is safe, if there’s high incidence of food borne illness in the area, I wouldn’t risk it (hello – who here has gotten TD in Sayulita, Mexico before? I know so many!)⠀
???? Don’t touch your mouth! I always wash my hands before re-applying sunscreen especially after being in the sand or poolside!⠀
⠀
Struggling with Diarrhea on Your Vacation? It’s always good to be PREPARED. ⠀
???? Fowler’s Anti-diarrheal Tablets, or Anti-diarrheal Oral Suspension liquid, are a must-pack! I like the tablets when I’m just bringing a carry-on as they’re TSA-friendly!⠀
Made with attapulgite, this natural, non-absorbable compound reduces the severity of diarrhea by binding to water, toxins & bacteria – resulting in firmer stools and less dehydration. ⠀
You can order at www.fowlersrelief.ca or the link in my bio @andreahardyrd ⠀
????Rehydrate – oral rehydration solutions can be hard to access so make your own! 3 parts water, 1-part juice, and as much salt as you can tolerate (I find ¼-1/2 a tsp per litre works)⠀
???? Lastly, if diarrhea is ongoing and you’re getting dehydrated, seek medical help. ⠀
⠀
Now – go and enjoy your vacation – diarrhea free!
