Many studies have found that green kiwifruit significantly decreases abdominal discomfort in individuals with either constipation predominant IBS (IBS-C) or in healthy adults suffering from constipation. ⠀
One proposed mechanism behind this is that kiwifruits contain an enzyme called actinidine. This enzyme increases movement in your upper gastrointestinal tract which can help with constipation. So if you’re struggling with constipation, whether it’s due to a diagnosis of IBS-C or a random episode, try eating 2 kiwifruits per day to help!
